“In this work, five ternary blends based on 70% by weight (wt %) of polypropylene (PP) with 30% wt of polycarbonate (PC)/poly(styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene)(SEBS) dispersed phase consists of 15 wt % PC and 15 wt % reactive (maleic anhydride grafted) and nonreactive SEBS mixtures at various ratios were prepared in a co-rotating twin screw extruder. scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs showed that the blends containing only nonreactive SEBS exhibited a fine dispersion of core-shell particles. With decreasing the SEBS/SEBS-g-Maleic Anhydride (MAH) weight ratio, the morphology changed from the core-shell particles to a mixed of core-shell, rod-like and individual particles. GSK461364 molecular weight This variation in phase morphology affected

the thermal and mechanical properties of the blends. DSC results showed that the blends containing only nonreactive SEBS exhibited a minimum in degree of crystallinity due to the homogeneous nucleation of core-shell particles. Mechanical testing showed that in the SEBS/SEBS-g-MAH weight ratio of 50/50, the modulus Y-27632 in vitro and impact strength increased compared with the PP matrix while the yield stress had minimum difference with that of PP matrix. These effects could be attributed to the formation of those especial microstructures revealed by the SEM studies. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals,

“The effects of biaxial strain on the electrical and magnetic properties of an antiferromagnetic Heusler compound Fe2VSi were systematically investigated. A series of epitaxial Fe2VSi thin films on MgAl2O4 and MgO substrates were fabricated with different tensile strains by varying the substrate-lattice mismatch and the film thickness. The strain was characterized by the ratio of the out-of-plane lattice parameter c to the in-plane lattice parameter a; this ratio c/a varied from 0.987 to 0.998 at room temperature. The tensile epitaxial strain was found to increase the antiferromagnetic Neel temperature T-N to 193 K, which is 70 K higher than that for the unstrained bulk material. A clear dependence check details of T-N on c/a was observed, which is consistent with theoretical predictions in which the band Jahn-Teller effect plays a significant role. “This study investigated the mechanism underlying the effect of tripterine on apoptosis of human acute myelocytic leukemic cells (HL-60). The apoptosis of HL-60 cells after treatment with triperine of different dosages and durations were determined using flow cytometry and transmission electron microscopy. The expressions of Fas, FasL and NF-KB in the HL-60 cells treated with 1.5 mu mol/L tripterine for different durations were measured by flow cytometry. Our results showed treatment with 0.5 similar to 2.
