We distributed the Demographic Data Form, the Eating Disorder Rating Scale (EDRS), and the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) to health professionals in Turkey, specifically those with a Master's degree or beyond, or those experiencing or having completed medical specialization training.
After initial enrollment of 312 subjects, 19 were removed from the study (9 due to pre-existing eating disorders, 2 due to pregnancy, 2 due to colitis, 4 due to diabetes mellitus, 1 due to depression, and 1 due to generalized anxiety disorder). This resulted in a study cohort of 293 individuals, composed of 82 men and 211 women. Among the study group participants, the assistant doctor role achieved the leading status, holding 56% of the highest positions. Changes in smoking patterns and their causes, one year post-pandemic, were the focus of this research endeavor. Patient smoking behavior was analyzed for adjustments during the course of the study.
Between March 1st, 2019, and March 1st, 2020, assessments were performed on patients admitted to our Smoking Cessation Outpatient Clinic and recorded within the Tobacco Addiction Treatment Monitoring System (TUBATIS). Patients were contacted by the physician who oversaw the smoking cessation outpatient clinic during the month of March 2021.
The first year of the pandemic's conclusion revealed that 64 (634%) patients' smoking behaviors remained unchanged. Of the 37 patients who adjusted their smoking practices, 8 (a 216% increase) escalated tobacco intake, 12 (a 325% decrease) lowered their consumption, 8 (216%) ceased smoking, and 9 (243%) returned to smoking. Post-pandemic (1 year), when examined, smoking behavior changes uncovered that patients who amplified their tobacco use or restarted smoking pointed to stress as the primary driver. Conversely, pandemic-induced health concerns were the core reason for those who decreased or stopped smoking.
This finding provides a valuable benchmark for predicting future smoking patterns during crises and pandemics, facilitating the development of targeted smoking cessation programs.

The kidneys' functional and structural aspects are damaged by the metabolic disorder hypercholesterolemia (HC), with oxidative stress and inflammation playing key roles in the negative effects. In this paper, we delve into the role of the flavonoid apigenin (Apg) in relation to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic effects in alleviating kidney injury stemming from hypercholesterolemia.
To assess the effects of Apg, twenty-four adult Wistar male rats were distributed equally among four treatment groups and monitored for eight weeks. A control group ate a normal pellet diet (NPD). The Apg group had NPD plus Apg (50 mg/kg). The HC group had NPD, 4% cholesterol and 2% sodium cholate. The HC/Apg group was hypercholesterolemic and received concurrent Apg. To evaluate renal function parameters, lipid profile, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX-1) activity, serum specimens were collected after the experiment. Lastly, the kidneys were processed histologically and homogenized for the assessment of IL-1, IL-10, and the gene expressions of KIM-1, Fn1, and Nrf2, all determined via quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, both phenotypic and molecular, were investigated in a multidrug-resistant, AmpC-producing Citrobacter freundii recovered from a dog with kennel cough in this study.
A sample of the isolate was extracted from a two-year-old dog afflicted with severe respiratory ailments. The isolate's phenotypic characteristics revealed resistance against a substantial selection of antimicrobial agents, specifically aztreonam, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, gentamicin, minocycline, piperacillin, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, and tobramycin.
