Initial blood pressure readings (taken at the clinic) were recorded, and participants were asked to complete a questionnaire, during the recruitment process. A Just Walk It leaflet, promoting the Active10 app and at least 10 minutes of brisk daily walking, was dispatched to every participant, two months after their delivery, through postal mail, email, or WhatsApp messaging. Confirmation of this was delivered via a phone call following a two-week period. The assessments were repeated three months later, incorporating telephone interviews about the acceptability and usage patterns of Active10.
Active10's acceptance rate, follow-up rate, and the recruitment rate are important metrics.
Of the 28 women approached, 21 (75%, confidence interval 551-893%) consented to participate. The age range encompassed 21 to 46 years, with 5 participants (24% of the sample) self-identifying as Black. One woman in the study population chose to exit, and another was affected by illness. The remaining participants (90%, 19 out of 21, 95% confidence interval 696-988%) were tracked after three months. The Active10 app saw 18 of 19 users download it, and of those who downloaded, 14 (74%) continued using it for three months, maintaining an average of 27 minutes of brisk walking per day, as shown by weekly screenshots. Combined immunotherapy and chemotherapy are currently the preferred treatment for PD-L1-positive gastric cancer in the initial stages of care. Still, a superior and consistently successful treatment method for elderly or frail individuals with gastric cancer remains a critical unmet need in medical research. Earlier studies have found that PD-L1 expression, Epstein-Barr virus involvement, and high-grade microsatellite instability (MSI-H) can possibly act as predictive markers to indicate the response of gastric cancer to immunotherapy. Our study, examining The Cancer Genome Atlas gastric adenocarcinoma cohort, found significantly higher PD-L1 expression, tumor mutation burden, and MSI-H proportion in elderly (over 70) gastric cancer patients in comparison to younger (under 70) patients.
